Description: This is a rare January 7th, 1935 broadside (single page playbill) from the American Tour engagement of the ABBEY THEATRE IRISH PLAYERS at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. (This tour followed the November 1934 engagement at the John Golden Theatre in New York City with several different productions presented in repertory.) ..... The Abbey Theatre (also known as the National Theatre of Ireland) was the first state-subsidized theatre in the English speaking world. This was the second of three American tours that the Abbey Players took in the 1930's. The current engagement included performances of the Sean O'Casey play "THE PLOUGH AND THE STARS", the Lennox Robinson comedy "DRAMA AT INISH", the Sean O'Casey classic "JUNO AND THE PAYCOCK", the Bernard Duffy comedy "THE COINER", the J. M. Synge classic "THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD" and the Lennox Robinson comedy "THE WHITEHEADED BOY". The company included BARRY FITZGERALD, MAUREEN DELANY, DENIS O'DEA, MICHAEL J. DOLAN, P. J. DETAILS: The single page, one-sided playbill measures 6 1/4" X 13" inches and includes production credits, cast lists for each production and synopsis of scenes, but no cast photos or bios ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a horizontal fold, several small edge tears and light creasing, this broadside is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
