Description: This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting ticket sales for the final two weeks of the Post-Broadway engagement of the ABBEY THEATRE IRISH PLAYERS at the Harris Theatre in Chicago, Illinois beginning April 3rd, 1933. (The Broadway engagement opened October 17th, 1932 at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York City with several different productions presented in repertory ranging from two to fourteen performances before going on the road.) ..... The Abbey Theatre (also known as the National Theatre of Ireland) was the first state-subsidized theatre in the English speaking world. This was the second of three American tours that the Abbey Players took in the 1930's. The current engagement included performances of the George Shiels comedy "THE NEW GOOSEN", the J. M. Synge play "RIDERS TO THE SEA", the J. M. Synge classic "THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD", the Lennox Robinson comedy "THE FAR OFF HILLS", the George Shiels comedy "PROFESSOR TIM", the Lady Gregory comedy "SPREADING THE NEWS", the Lennox Robinson comedy "THE WHITEHEADED BOY", the W. B. Yeats play "THE WORDS UPON THE WINDOW PANE", the W. B. Yeats play "KATHLEEN NI HOULIHAN" and the Sean O'Casey classic "JUNO AND THE PAYCOCK". This single page, one-sided flyer measures 5 3/4" X 10 7/8" inches and includes production credits, performance schedule and ticket prices on the front. The backside is blank ..... CONDITION: With the exception of three horizontal folds and slight discoloration, this rare flyer is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
