From the estate of actor William Sully who worked in Vaudeville Burlesque and theatre late 19th century to early 20th century era. He was from Boston and had Broadway New York acting credits. He was married to Nellie Germon who was one of the famous Germon family of actors. Her sister was Effie Germon who has a unique history involving John Wilkes Booth. I acquired a large lot of items and ephemera that had descended from William Sully including hand written lyrics and jokes by both Sully and Nellie Germon. The Pickwick Papers Bardell versus Pickwick:A romantic misunderstanding with his landlady, the widow Mrs Bardell, results in one of the most famous legal cases in English literature, Bardell v. Pickwick, leading to them both being incarcerated in the Fleet Prison for debt. There was an early attempt at a theatrical adaptation with songs by W.T. Moncrieff and entitled Samuel Weller, or, The Pickwickians, in 1837. This was followed in 1871 by John Hollingshead's stage play Bardell versus Pickwick. The first successful musical was Pickwick (sometimes Pickwick, A Dramatic Cantata) by Sir Francis Burnand and Edward Solomon and premiered at the Comedy Theatre on 7 February 1889.
