Description: 8"X10" Original Color Photograph of Seth Avett and Tania Elizabeth From the Photographer: "I’d seen the Avett Brothers a couple of times before at small venues in the little college town where I live now, in Kent, Ohio. But never before had I heard them in New Orleans, at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, where my family of origin lives, where I go every year with my Nikon to take about 2,000 photographs. To be invited to play music at this festival is the pinnacle, as far as I’m concerned. People who come to this festival are discerning consumers of music. New Orleans, is, after all, the birthplace of jazz, one of the most creative music forms of all. The first time, in 2009, that I saw the Avetts at the Fest, as we call it, they were so humble. They played at one of the “lesser” stages at the Fest and they kept saying over and over, “We can’t believe we’re here. Thank you for having us.” I didn’t see them at the Fest again until last year, in 2014. It was obvious they had “arrived,” as now they were playing on one of the main stages. They were lit up. I mean, I’d seen the Avetts before, but for them to be playing on this stage in NEW ORLEANS to a crowd of thousands on a sunny day in May brought out the very best in them. I was able to inch my way forward through the crowd to get within 50 feet with my long lens and to take photograph after photograph. I probably took 500. This one exemplified and embodied the pure joy of this concert. The smiles were real, the music genuine. I was so glad I captured this moment.' Debra-Lynn B. Hook
