He is notable for his accomplishments while competing in the Indianapolis 500 race and the Trans-Am Championship series. In 1962, he became the first driver to qualify over 150 mph, winning the pole position, then won the Indianapolis 500 race the next year, in 1963. Among his many wins, he won the 1970 Trans-Am Championship and the manufacturer's title for Ford with his 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302.This 2007 Mustang began when Parnelli Jones came to Steve Saleen asking for a nice late-model Mustang. After racing with Saleen in the 80s, and with Saleen's headquarters close to Parnelli's Southern California stomping grounds, Steve's company was a logical place to go. Steve answered with a 500 example run of the Limited Edition you see here as a replica made by AUTOart in 1:18 scale.
