Description: This is a genuine ancient Roman coin from the era of Emperor Gratianus, dated between 378-383 AD. The obverse side features Emperor Gratianus while the reverse side depicts an Emperor with a kneeling female figure holding his hand. Gratianus was emperor of the Western Roman Empire from 367 to 383. The eldest son of Valentinian I, Gratian was raised to the rank of Augustus as a child and inherited the West after his father's death in 375. He nominally shared the government with his infant half-brother Valentinian II, who was also acclaimed emperor in Pannonia on Valentinian's death. The East was ruled by his uncle Valens, who was later succeeded by Theodosius I. Emperor Gratianus spent most of his reign in Gaul repelling the tribes that were invading from across the Rhine River. In 378 he arrived too late to take part in the disastrous battle with the Goths at Adrianople. As a replacement for Valens, who was killed in that conflict, Gratian appointed Theodosius emperor of the East in 379. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a great piece of ancient Roman history. 1102
