Description: Very exotic and tropical-looking plant, but very easy to grow in a shady to part sun humid woodland soil. When young, it has an impressive single oval leaf. When about to flower, a huge 2' to 3' glossy green trifoliate leaf emerges supported by a 2' stem. Alongside the leaf, sprouts a purple-red spathe with white stripes that creates a hood through which the red spadix peaks out. This hood slopes down to a thin filament at its tip. A spectacular looking plant. It will produce many offset bulbs around the main bulb to create a clump of plants. The flower or spathe is replaced in the fall with a large clump of red berries that will produce many seeds that are easy to germinate and grow. Highly deer and varmint resistant. Zone 5a to 8b.
