Description: This item is an antique vintage right-handed 33 3/4" wood shaft putter. It is an aluminum headed mallet style with cross hatched face scoring. Marked simply James Maiden on the crown. Maiden and his brother Stewart Maiden mentored the great Bobby Jones and helped Jones develop his silky swing. It was at Nassau CC where Jones acquired his famous Calamity jane putter from James Maiden. The head is in good vintage condition. The head is clean and not all rusted. It does have the expected play nicks and dings. Please look at the many zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old apparently original hickory. The shaft has a bend, I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play. The grip is an old long leather wrap that is in good vintage condition. Great collectible. If you are considering playing with this club all wooden shafted irons should be re-set prior to play. While I see no issues with the shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These wooden shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee wooden shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old wooden shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old wooden shafted wood with a hard range ball. Shipping in the US is calculated and based on a 3-pound box. This item shipped UPS Ground. For those of you that never ship but only receive items, the further you are from me in NC the more shipping will be. That is the way the carriers charge.
