Description: Fine antique c1860's G. Betjemann & Sons(London) Coromandel letter compendium or secretary made expressly for and retailed by Tiffany & Co. A lovely piece from a premier and well respected maker. The secretary measures 14 1/2" height x 12 1/4" long x 11 3/4" wide in the closed position. It retains all original ormolu brass hardware and antique mid-1800's Wedgwood blue jasperware medallions. The inside is very clean with multiple compartments for letters, bills, etc. It also has original re-useable porcelain notepad and two inkwells. When the top is opened there are more, smaller compartments visible but when this entire section is pulled upwards it reveals a hidden compartment below for safe and secret storage of prized possessions. The entire interior section is in very clean condition with little or no damage. The secretary itself is in overall good condition. Minor chippage here and there to the finish on the top and some wear in the area where the two doors close against the top. The secretary is top quality and shows fine workmanship.
