Description: Antique Primitive Albany Slip Stoneware - RARE Oil Wick Jug Lamp or bulk oil container with side spout. From an old Chambersburg Pa. Farm. Approximately 8 1/2” height x 5 5/8” diameter hand thrown beehive style oil. Lamps of this type burned any type of oil, grease, or rendered fat. Hole in spout is approximately 5/16” diameter. The first photo is without flash and the slip appears almost black. The remaining photos were taken with flash and show the depth of slip color as dark brown. Very good antique stoneware condition. Fairly heavy for the size. Approximately 3 1/4 lbs. Mo chips, cracks, or damage detected. Three marks on base from kiln spacer / fork. The base has a few small flakes on edge of base due to use. The spout has a cut edge that has a rough area and light glaze. Both inside and outside have applied slip finish. The inside of Jug has a remaining smell from oil.
