Description: Antique decorated picture frame, molded composition material over wood. The frame is made for a picture which is 6 1/4" x 7 3/4". This frame is currently oriented vertically, but could easily be changed to a horizontal orientation. Small chip in the decoration at the top-right corner.The frame is otherwise in very good condition.Includes the original glass. The frame currently holds an antique print : " Angel Heads " After a painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), English painter who specialized in portraits. Reynolds was one of the major European painters of the 18th century. The print is foxed. This print is #861 of "The Perry Pictures" ( New York Edition ), made in the year 1910. The picture frame is also from the first part of the 1900s. ---------- Frame Dimensions : Overall frame size, 6 3/4" x 8 1/4" Rabbet size ( maximum size of picture that fits ), 6 1/4" x 7 3/4" Sight ( viewing area from the front ), about 6" x 7 1/2" The frame is about 3/8" wide on all four sides. The original oil on canvas painting was created in 1786-1787, and is today in the Tate Britain art gallery. Also known as A Child's Portrait in Different Views ; it depicts the head of five-year-old Lady Frances Isabella Keir Gordon from five different angles. The painting is considered to be one of Reynolds's "fancy pictures" or character studies, rather than a traditional portrait, and is often referred to as " Reynolds Angels ". When Sir Joshua Reynolds was called to paint the portrait of a little girl, he conceived the pretty child's fair face as suggesting that of an angel. It was a face which was so charming from every point of view that he painted it in five positions. Grouping the heads in a circle, he added wings after the manner of the cherubs of the old Italian masters, surrounded them with clouds. In each position of the five heads the expression varies; a series of the child's changing moods. Each face tells its own story.
