Description: This antique patented self pouring teapot is a true Victorian collectors gem. Made by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield in England, United Kingdom, for JJ Royles of Manchester, it features the patented pump action piston, to pour tea without having to lift the pot from the table. The teapot is made of pewter in a reeded globular shape, the design has the iconic swan neck spout and loop handle. The inside has a filter strainer for the tea leaves. Once the tea is made in the pot, a cup is placed underneath the spout. The lid piston is raised and the hole over the top of the knob is covered. As the lid is pushed back down, the internal pressure forces tea out of the spout and into the cup. Designed to help large Victorian families and reduce the need to lift heavy teapots. This one has a capcitu of approximately 2 3/4 pints. The base is marked with Royles Patent self pouring. The teapot is perfect for any collector of antique metalware,and antique gadgetry, with its original and authentic style, making it a true treasure. Crafted in 1886, this teapot is a stunning piece of history. Its additional material of brass for the piston and liner adds to its charm and functionality.
