Description: ARTIST: Poul Friis Nybo(1869-1929) is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been sold at auction several times, including such famous auction houses as Christie’s, Bonham’s and Bruun Rasmussen. He was also a regular exhibitor at the famous Charlottenborg and at the Grand Salon in Paris. He was educated both in Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen and the famous Zartmann’s school. He went on study trips to Berlin and Paris. He’s favored scenes include interiors with people and different landscapes. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is an atmospheric, impressionistic rendering of a young girl with braids practicing piano in the candlelight. She appears to be in her night gown, and therefore this could be one of her last chores, before going to bed. On the front of the frame is a small plaquette with the artist’s name, and on the back of the frame is an old auction sticker. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1900-1920. Signed: “Friis Nyeboe” (“Nyeboe” actually was his birth name which he then later changed, but he sometimes signed using this way of spelling it) in the lower left corner. SIZE: With frame: 52,5 cm/20.7" * 45,5 cm/17.9". Without frame: 35,5 cm/14" * 28,5 cm/11.2". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches and stains.
