Description: Etching on wove (vellin paper. Sheet size: 26 x 34 cm. (10,2 x 13,4 inch). Image size: 17,5 x 23 cm. (6,9 x 9,1 inch). Eigen druk' (printed by the artist) Made by 'Jacobus Marie (Ko) Prange' after own design. Jacobus Marie Prange (Surabaya; 1904-1970; The Hague), called Ko by his friends, made etchings and lithographs. His work was often bleak and ominous in tone. From 1943 to 1946 Prange was a teacher at the Rotterdam Academy. Simon Carmiggelt asked Prange to work for The Parool as an art critic. He was very critical of modern (abstract) art and the policy of museums in this area, especially the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum. It is often suggested that Prange felt undervalued as a graphic artist, but this cannot be proven. In 1951 he participated in an exhibition in the Stedelijk together with, Jenny Dalenoord, M.C. Escher, Harry van Kruiningen and Constant. Condition: Very good, given age. Light soiling. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
