Original hand colouring Aloisius Edouard Camille Gaultier (1745 -1818) was a French Roman Catholic Priest and educational reformer and cartographer. He fled from France during the French Revolution and lived in England where he set up a school for refugee children. He published many educational works, including educational atlases and maps. His most popular work was 'Geographie de L'abbe Gaultier' first printed in Paris in 1792. The book taught Geography through a series of games and activities using maps. This map is from the English edition translated and updated by Jehoshophat Aspin (active 1814-40) and published by John Harris in London in 1825. Page size is 48cm by 40cmMap area is in good condition for age, engravings are clear. Some stains and marks. Small repairs to centre fold. Original colouring.
