Description: Collected over the years at local estate auctions: this is an antique maid's apron from the turn of the 1900s. It is quite large and quite long and is handmade. This is made of crisp white cotton dimity check, with woven-in thicker strands for a patterned look. The waistband is gathered and has a top flounce >1" wide with 2 gathering lines on the actual waistband. It measures 24.5" wide along the waistband. On the front right side there's a patch pocket, and the skirt extends 29" from the waistband, so it dates to when skirts were long. There are 20" side ties to form a bow in the back. This has a lovely row of hand tatting along the hem edge, as shown. I have laundered and pressed this and found the fabric to be in sound condition, soft and flexible and strong. There are a few condition issues: a few small holes about 6 - 8" below the waistband, one brown spot 3" from the waistband, and a faint brownish area on the skirt. All are shown in the last few closeups. The fullness of the skirt helps hide them, but you need to know about them. This has a great period look for a historical display, or reuse this lovely fabric! Please check out my other antique aprons too.
