Description: Offered here is an antique label for Au Cognac de France – Apertif – it pictures the vessel French S.S. Normandie which entered service in 1935 as the fastest and largest passenger ship afloat. The ship sailed until 1942. As WW II broke out the ship was claimed by the US Navy and renamed USS Lafayette. While the ship was being retrofitted to become a troop ship, a fire broke out, the ship capsized, sank and was finally scraped in 1946.
