Description: Very rare example of a straight katana in shikomizue koshirae(mounting), especially already imported into US. Shikomizue is a Japanese word for “concealed cane” and is a way adapted by samurais in Meiji Period as laws from the new westernized government had forbidden them from carrying traditional katanas on the streets, so some chose to carry their weapons inside canes or walking sticks. This particular cane has bone/antler horn handle and tip and painted black wood shealth, whereas the blade has three mekugi holes, indicating there were probably two other set of koshiraes this blade had been in so that the katana itself is probably from late Edo period and eventually ended up in the cane koshirae. Please DM me more for more historical information, my assumptions on this particular Karan or if you have any other questions.
