Description: An antique balance scale weight from Kyoto. Most likely from the mid 1800's to the very early 1900's. (Late Edo to early Showa eras) This would have been for a very large scale. It's made of cast iron with a copper or brass insert. This insert would have been stamped by the Japanese government stating it is a correct weight. On the stamp it has written "Kyoto" and the numbers "1614". At just over 10 pounds this is a heavy weight for an unusually large sized scale. As a decorator item or a paper weight it has a beautiful patina.
