Description: FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE....! From an estate liquidation on the island of Madeira in Portugal. Found in a traditional thatched roof Madeiran Barn called a "Hay Stack" or "Palheiro". (Exploring these ancient stone out buildings often yield a bevy of curious tools, tucked in eves, long ago forgotten, such as this.) An early, most likely 19th Century, cast iron Ingot / Wire mold. Used for melting metal. This early foundry tool was well used and has survived with some condition issues. It measures 18 inches end to end and stands on four feet. It is coated with residue from prior use and some surface rust attributed to disuse. The mold is fitted with a brass banded wooden handle as well. There is an ancient repair by one foot that I have illustrated as well as a crack, also illustrated. I have inserted a standard size playing card in one photo as a reference for size. MUCH OBLIGED
