Description: We are pleased to offer a beautiful antique stoneware milk pitcher, incised around the body and finished in dark brown Albany Slip glaze. It has a beautiful, classic form and rich color. Pottery makers across upstate New York turned out millions of pieces of utilitarian stoneware in the 19th century. It was not considered valuable and as such, was not preserved or well cared for. Much of it was finished in a dark brown glaze called Albany Slip. The glaze was high in mineral content which accounts for the variations in color - it can be almost black to lighter shades of brown. The firing process caused color variations as well. Many of the pieces show the fingerprints of the potter who dipped the piece into the glaze before firing. We will be offering a number of these pieces in the coming weeks. They are great for accenting country or primitive decor. Please be sure to add us to your favorites list and check back often. Condition: Very good - no chips or cracks. Size: 6 3/4" tall; 4" at the opening, widening to 4 3/4" diameter at the base.
