Description: This set includes an exceptionally rare set of MATCHED Spalding Kro Flite irons and a Spalding "Dundee" model driver. Piecing together a set of clubs takes a long time, and even after the set is complete, it is never really a MATCHED set. This 7 club set was assembled and sold in the pro shop of Elmer W. "Harb" Harbert. This is clearly evidenced by the E.W. Harbert stamping on all of the irons in this set. Mr. Harbert was a PGA golf professional at the Marywood Country Club and was the father of "Chick" Harbert who won the PGA Championship in 1954. Sets of this quality would have only been sold in pro shops by certified golf professionals at this time This set includes the following clubs...3 iron... C7, 36 inches, 22 degrees4 iron… C3, 37 inches, 27 degrees5 iron… C5, 36 ¾ inches, 34 degrees6 iron… C3, 36 ¼ inches, 37 degrees7 iron… C2, 36 inches, 44 degrees19 (9) iron… D2, 36 ¼, 52 degreesPutter… B9, 42 34 ½ inchesDriver… B5, 42 ½ inches, 10 degrees The first thing to notice is that spacing of the lofts for this set provides excellent gap coverage for yardages. Shafts are in good shape on all of these clubs. Heads have been inspected and are all firmly attached without any wiggle and ready for play. I have sanded and refinished the exposed shafts and added new whipping to the base of the grips and to the top of hosel to reinforce an area that is classic for shaft breaks. Grips are all original and firmly attached. I reconditioned the original leather grips and buffed them. They are solid and ready for play. These could certainly be replaced at a later date, but they are still in great, original condition. The chrome on the heads has some flaking, but that is to be expected for clubs that are over 100 years old. They all are in great condition and ready for play. This is a great set for anyone wanting to take their hickory game to the next level. The shafts all feel solid, but there is no warranty on antique hickory clubs. It is strongly advised to only hit soft cover balls with antique hickory clubs and woods. Balls like the Callaway Chrome Soft are ideal for these clubs. Hitting range rocks at the driving range is fastest way to break a shaft or cause damage to the face or your driver. Players can still achieve great distances with hickory shafted clubs, but it is best to slow your swing down to work with the natural wood shaft. Unlike steel shafts in modern clubs, there is added “torque” in the shaft of hickory as it will twist more in addition to bending. “Swinging for the fence” is ill advised. An easy, breezy swing is recommended until you get the feel of playing with hickory shafted clubs. The Spalding "Dundee" model driver in this set was completely rebuilt. All components on the head were removed and re-epoxied and the old grip was replaced with a fresh cowhide grip, "roughside" out. The head and shaft were both hand rubbed with 5 coats of True Oil to provide protection from the elements. It is a great hickory driver. You will notice on the face of this club a dark spot. This is called a carbon spot and is actually a very desireable trait to have on a persimmon club. It is a testament that it is from an "old growth" tree and makes it a great, dense, head for play. As mentioned before, I cannot place enough emphasis on the fact that this is a matched set. Matched sets of 100 year old clubs are exceedingly rare and highly prized by collectors and players alike. I have done my best to provide an accurate description of this set of clubs and clear pictures to show condition. Please ask all questions BEFORE purchasing this set. Do not purchase with the intention of sending back. I do accept returns, but you will be responsible for paying return shipping.
