ANTIQUE GEORGE JONES CRESCENT CHINA SMALL TEA SET: TEAPOT, CREAM & SUGAR; UNI

Description: Maker: This exquisite individual antique tea set is by the legendary English firm Crescent China, the company formed by George Jones in Stoke-on-Trent in 1861 as George Jones & Co. In 1873, his sons joined the business and it was renamed George Jones & Sons. The Crescent China trademark was registered the same year and in 1907, the company was formally renamed Crescent China. It went out of business in 1957. Composition: The set consists of a teapot, a creamer and an open sugar bowl. Design: The elegant pattern - called Uni - features a band of gold honeycombs and leaves against a pure white background of thin and translucent white bone china. At the end of the teapot's spout is a lovely gold trimmed leaf. Age: A black Crescent China mark appears on the base of each piece in this set. This mark was in use between 1891 and 1921. The Uni pattern was discontinued around 1934. Size: The teapot is about 6 3/4 inches long between the tip of the spout and the far end of the handle, 2 5/8 inches wide at the top and 3 inches tall at the tip of the spout. The creamer is 2 5/8 inches tall and 1 5/8 inches wide at the bottom. The sugar bowl is 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall. The set weighs 13 ounces. Condition: The set is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, repairs or wear. There is a small discolored spot on the underside of the teapot lid that is not visible when the lid is in place. It's shown in the photo with the red arrow.
