Description: Antique Fukagawa Koransha Carp Tray - Meiji Period - c.1880. This rare early Koransha Carp tray is being offered as-is due to the damage sustained in the bottom right corner (barely evident from the front). Though damaged, it is an exceptional and rare example of early carp design and highly collectable even as a "shelf piece". The 2 main carps are swimming together in a pond surrounded by bamboo , flowers and lush green foliage. The blue carp is painted in underglaze while the orange carp in overglaze. Both have gold detailing on the individual scales of the bodies. The edges are beautifully detailed in iridescent blues that look like shimmering waters. There is also brown decorative overglaze and gold detailing. The back has a nicely stylized decorative boarder. Condition includes a broken and re-glued bottom right corner and slight enamel loss to the gold carp, as well as wear to the gold detailing. Length is 11.0" and width 8.5". Displays beautifully. Additional Photos upon request.
