Description: Antique French Porcelain Plates, “Digoin & Sarreguemines”, Late 19th Century, 2 pcs These antique French “fine faïence” plates have a charming stenciled design of periwinkles surrounded by a low relief blue Rococo border. Each plate bears a mark composed of a shield of Lorraine surmounted by a crenellated crown and surrounded by the inscription, “Digoin & Sarreguemines”, a sign that the plate is from the late 19th century. They both have the embossed production mark, “2L25”, along with the decorator's mark, “1655”. The celebrated Sarreguemines pottery factories (faïenceries) were created in the Lorraine region of France at the end of the 18th century. After 1870, when Lorraine was annexed by Germany, the factories were relocated to Digoin in order to keep the production French. These plates are in good condition with the exception of a minuscule hairline crack in the middle of one of the plates and tiny chip on the edge of the other. These lovely plates will bring a touch of 19th century French atmosphere into your decor and would be an excellent addition to your collection.
