Description: Quite unusual, an antique English Hepplewhite solid mahogany 18th century open washstand with one drawer, shelf for pitcher and opening for bowl and two glasses. Despite the delicacy of the engineering and the diminutive scale of the little stand it is surprisingly strong and in superb condition for its age. The bottom glue blocks and one drawer slide looks to have been replaced in Victorian times but the top glue blocks and the little brass knob are original. One leg had at one time been broken and nicely re-glued. There are two inventory or archive control numbers underneath possibly indicating a past ownership in a public or private collection. Correct period washstands in this exceptional condition are seldom encountered anymore. If you have a pitcher and bowl that will fit it, don't hesitate, grab it! We even have a beautiful white swan-head one that fits if you need those too. It measures 26" tall by 12-1/2" square. The pitcher opening is 8-5/8"diameter. Shelf height is 10". An exceptionally fine little wash stand that is completely serviceable!
