Description: This is a fixed price listing for $250 for two (2) professionally framed antique Dr. Syntax Postcard size lithographs which are stacked in a row of three (3) in each each frame (two (2) identical wood frames). Purchase price includes shipping. Dr. Syntax was created by the artist of these cards, Thomas Rowlandson and the writer William Combe. They two co-created this character of Doctor Syntax. Dr. Syntax was featured in books they wrote in the early 1800's. I can not date these lithographs which if original would date to 1812-1820 approximately but the were re-created in many subsequent decades until their popularity waned. So their age can range from over 100 years old to much older. They are in good condition but please look at pictures as you can see yellowing and signs of age. One has a brown mark on top of the middle of the post card. I purchased these from a estate sale auction containing collectibles of all types and values held in a turn of the century (early 1900's) home in the city of Richmond. The owners were of means and seem to have collected items of some value versus the average type stuff you normally come across. Please note, I do not date the frames to that timeframe. The frames are relatively modern. Please look at the pictures as they are an essential part of this listing. These are comic postcards each with a brief title on the bottom including: Dr. Syntax In the Glass HouseDr. Syntax At A ReviewDr. Syntax Drawing After NatureDr. Syntax Sketching The LkastDr. Syntax Setting Out On His Second TourThe last one simply says The Doctor's Dream Each comic postcard (six total) is approximately 3 inches by 5 inches. Each frame is 10 x 16 1/2 inches. Please email me with questions.
