Description: Very beautifully done antique biscuit barrel from Austria features different scenes on front and back, and different scenes on the original matching lid. There is no damage that I can see. Finial of lid is in perfect condition. Gold trim is shiny and complete. There is a stamp on bottom which says Austria and a pattern of cross-hatching, but I don't know the maker. The only flaw I see is that there is a sort of thin line (about 1" long) impressed into one of the pink panels where there is only a rose. I think this was a manufacturer's flaw or part of the manufacturing process. This was one of my mom's pretty treasures, but I am downsizing in preparation to move to a smaller house so I simply can't take it all with me. Mom collected antiques her whole married life (so 1951 until her death in 2017). She had a great eye for the beautiful things. I am guessing that this piece goes back to somewhere before the 1940's, but it is only a guess.
