Description: Antique SPRING BARREL CORKSCREW with Slotted Retaining Clip 1906 German Registered Design, Georg Usbeck, Steinbach-HallenbergMarked "D. R. G. M."German Advertising: "...RHEINS AM RHEIN." Made in Germany Description:This wood handled spring barrel corkscrew, German registered design to Georg Usbeck of Steinbach-Hallenberg, Germany, has a slotted retaining clip marked "D.R.G.M.". This clip is secured to a groove on the shank just above the barrel. When the cork is pulled and moved out the clip allows the shank to pass through the wider part of the clip to slide the barrel upward. The handle of the corkscrew originally contained advertising of which the main words are no longer legible. Germans who view the photos may be able to discern the complete advertising from what remains. The bottom line is still legible:"RHEINS AM RHEIN." (which I believe is the location on the Rhine River) Size and Weight:6 1/4" length, 3 1/2" width.4 3/4 ounces weight. Condition:In VERY GOOD condition for an item well over 100 years old. There is some tarnishing on the metal consistent with the age of the piece and much of the original German advertising is worn on the handle; spring barrel has a tight spiral and there are no broken or damaged parts; worm is full length with a sharp point.
