Description: How did this little medicine bottle get from London to the wild west USA? Of course we were still importing many items from England. That was always in the mix when we were digging. But this is not an import item. It’s a personal type pharmacy bottle that you would have in your coat pocket or in your travel case. The name Le Clerc is well known in Europe as a Medical Historian in 1696 but I find no other record of this medicine company. So, I have decided it was a tourist that came to the USA who had been reading about the adventures in the west and the lore of gold in the hills. He had a medical condition that the dry climate would help but always kept his London medicine in his tweed jacket. He hopped on the train but it was a long trip across the country. The train was robbed, and it was taken from him. One taste by the outlaw and it was discarded at the next town and ended up in the landfill. It sat there for 100 years until it was found by a hobbyist bottle digger. This wonderful English bottle stands 3 ½” tall and 1 ¼” across boldly embossed “THE LE CLERC MEDICINE CO LONDON ENGLAND”. It has a flat ring lip and is starting to turn a sun-colored amethyst. It is a high-quality glass and didn’t take on the stain from it’s burial. It is in outstanding condition with one small haze spot inside. I haven’t seen another one. There is no damage. This bottle traveled 5,000 miles in the 1890s just for you.
