Description: Antique 1880s Victorian Black Sweater Knit Mourning Mantel Shawl Silk Tie AS IS Here we have an authentic antique Victorian mourning mantle. It is made from a black sweater knit with intricate detail. It almost looks to have stripes due to alternating thickness of the knit lines. Within these thick lines there is a dark brown/lighter black thread knitted throughout. The edges are trimmed with knit loops that twist to give a fringe-like detail. They measure about 1.5" each in position. Some of these knit loops have damage, but 95% of the knit throughout the piece is in great antique condition. The mantel is shaped as a long triangle, with the center back coming to a downward point. At this point, the knit loops cluster together to form a shape reminiscent of a ball or flower. It features two silk ties measuring 16.5" each. There is one on each end about 13" in from the outer points of the triangle. Both silk ties have tearing throughout with intentionally frayed ends.
