Description: SquareTrade © AP6.0 Antique French Graham's Fashion Framed Print This is a wonderful antique 1850s French Fashion print in a beautiful vintage frame. Print features two young ladies and a young girl out for a walk with their dog. Under the illustration reads: "Graham's Paris Fashions". It is also signed under the illustration on either side. It's difficult to read, so please see pictures for details. Frame measures 8 1/2" by 13". The print is matted, and the part of the print that shows is 5 1/2" by 8 1/2". This is beautiful!! We recently heard from a collector of I have been collecting 19th century fashion prints for over 2 decades and adds that this is one of the best they have ever seen. Everything about it is right. The paper and the colors used appear correct for the time period which would date to the early 1850s, and it has a child in it which is extremely rare. Upon examination of the little girl's bodice, you can see that it limits the movement of the shoulders, which is correct for this time period, as it trained young girls not to raise their arms above their waists. They were not 100% positive, but state it looks as if the back of the frame has been painted black, or a very dark color. This was done when a house underwent a period of mourning. The pictures and mirrors were turned to the walls and the backs were painted black to symbolize that the house was in mourning. We thank the collector for sharing her knowledge.
