Description: Antique 1800's Civil War Era Spectacles, Metal Straight Temple Eye Glasses Antique straight temple spectacles were invented sometime in the 1830's. They were meant to be used sitting and reading, and would easily fall off the face while walking. Those who wanted them to stay on would tie them with a string from behind. They were usually made from steel, nickel, or solid gold. Straight temple spectacles went out of style in the late 1800's when spring steel was invented. They are sought after by many today, mainly civil war re-enactor's but also many others who like their small, clean look. Spectacles measure approximately 4 1/4" x 1" x 3 5/8". Listing is for glasses only. They are pictured with an antique book for reference. Please see photos CAREFULLY for added description! Sold as is. Fast shipping within 24 hours Monday- Friday! As with most vintage and antiques, they show wear, love and age. That's what we come to expect and what makes these items special.
