Description: Antique 16th Century Peruvian INCA Polychrome Painted Wooden KERO / Pedestal Vessel. BACKGROUND INFO: Kero was purchased at an Estate sale of a woman that was a world traveler, serious art collector who worked for many years at N.Y. museums. She was previously married to a museum founder with ties to LBJ. She herself was appointed by Pres. George Bush to a local Committee. Although this item has not been authenticated, it is almost identical (except for the painted scenes) to one sold at Sotheby's. (Please see Item #307 on April 14.) It was sold with 4 other Keros for about $3,000. This wood Vessel is 4" tall by 3-1/2" wide at top and "cone" is 2" deep. It is about 1/4" thick wood. There are 4 painted (POLYCHROME) scenes, with geometrics of stairs, dots and triangles. Colors on dark wood are red-orange beige and brown. The bottom foot or pedestal has colored dots around it. There is a 1" crack at the top edge, with a 1/2" crack at the bottom edge at about the same side. There is some paint loss (about 20%).
