Description: I believe this fine American Revolutionary War era coin silver beaker with neoclassical decoration was made by Boston silversmith Caleb Beal (1746-1801) who was working between 1770 and 1800. It is finely crafted with a border of neoclassical.garlands both on the top edge and on the bottom edge of the beaker and is centered with an oval containing the contemporary initials C.L.T. over L. which is surrounded with conforming garlands and topped with an elaborate ribbon and bow. The base of the beaker is hallmarked four times with the silversmith's initials CB. The beaker is 2 3/4" tall and is 2 3/4" in diameter at the lip. It is heavily made and weighs a total of 98.3 grams. The beaker has four old dents in the base and a 1/4" tight crack in the top edge (see photos). It has beautifully swelling tapered shape.
