Evelyn Favus (Richin) was an internationally known fine artist. When she was young, Evelyn’s favorite subjects, who posed for her in her studio, were children. Without children to paint, she changed her art form to large and beautiful abstracts. She grew up in New York City, where she painted and taught art to adult students. One of the students was Andy Warhol, who sat in the back of the room so as not to be noticed. Later, she moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she lived among the Amish and created many of most well-known portraits of children. Evelyn retired to Hollybrook, but never from painting. Evelyn’s art was so highly regarded that she was showcased in many one-woman art exhibits. Benoit Menasche, retired Art Curator of Pembroke Pines, said Evelyn was a “wonderfully creative artist who worked on her art all the days of her life.” Her works included pen and ink drawings, large canvases in oils and acrylics, lithographs and works on glass and rice paper.
