It wasn't until the 1990s and early 2000s, when the synthesis of punk and electronica really came to full flower, that the influence of Alan Vega and his pioneering minimal-electro act, Suicide, was truly evident. Suicide emerged in the late '70s as part of the CBGB's punk scene, but their experimental, synth-based sound leaned more toward the future (presaging post-punk, new wave, electronica, and dance rock). After the dissolution of Suicide, Vega continued as a solo artist. STATION (2007) shows that Vega hasn't mellowed with age. As sonically adventurous as anything he's released, STATION blends spoken-word performance, pulsing electronic beats, industrial textures, and elements of trance, disco, avant garde, and psychedelia. The music isn't for everyone, but fans of Suicide and punk's more progressive tendencies will want to give this a listen.
