Description: This is a rare shipwreck coin and one of the few designated UNC Details by NGC (the vast majority only get a Genuine designation). The Admiral Gardner was a ship of the British East India Company that was wrecked in a massive storm on the Goodwin Sands just off the coast of Dover, England in January 1809. The wreck was found in 1984 and some coins were salvaged in 1985 during a licensed dive. The wreck was designated under the Protection of Wrecks Act on May 2, 1985. This British East India Company “10 cash” copper coin was minted by a state-of-the-art steam engine press in Birmingham, England, so the coins were modern for the time. The obverse bears the coat of arms of the British East India Company granted to the company in 1698. The reverse bears the denomination of the coin in Persian inscription, the language of Mughal India. This Admiral Gardner "Shipwreck Coin" from India is a rare and unique addition to any coin collection. The coin has been certified by NGC, ensuring its authenticity and quality.
