Description: A Farmer's Alphabet by Mary Azarian Hardcover w Dust Jacket. First Edition Gray and red boards. Gold lettering on spine. Self-portrait of Mary Azarian, the author and illustrator creating a woodcut on the front Dust Jacket cover. Mary Azarian lives in Plainfield, Vermont and when she first came to Vermont taught at one of the last one-room schoolhouses in Vermont. Vermont's Department of Education contracted her to design a Farmers Alphabet, the idea being of creating individual letter posters, a decorative teaching aid that would illustrate a country alphablet to celebrate some of rural traditions of New England. David Godine, the publisher, well known for his beautiful books, was at the time (1981) living in Jaffery New Hampshire himself and published this book of the original posters. Each poster is on its own full page with nothing on the back, making them suitable for framing if you want to disassemble this beautiful book. This oversized book is a great find and a beautiful example of Mary Azarian's work. 28pg.
