Description: 7198 Home made card for mother, quote from Nast’s 1872 Almanac, Harper & Brother Excellent condition. This 2 leaf fold-over greeting card was home made. Inside is a piece of die-cut scrap with fruit and a banner saying, “All for you”. Also on the inside, the maker apparently snipped a piece out of Nast’s 1872 Illustrated Almanac, published by Harper & Brother, Franklin Square New York. This snippit says: And who my youthful body bent Across her knee - oh, sad event ! And spanked me to her heart’s content? My Mother So we have a little corporal punishment. Note however. This is not a Mother’s Day card per se. This specific special day was not invented until 1907 by Anna Jarvis. However, the concept of honoring the Mother had been in our culture for decades before, it particularly being supported by women and the peace movement.
