A general rule of thumb is to use: 100-200cc per 1 quart bag 300-600cc per 1 gallon bag 600-1200cc per 2 gallon bag 2000-4000cc per 5 gallon bag For less dense foods like oats and pasta, you'll want to use on the high side. For more dense foods like flour or rice, you can use on the lower side. What types of foods are good to store? The best storing foods are dry goods with a moisture content of less than 12%. To test, try to 'break' or smash your food. Sufficiently dry foods will snap or powder, while foods with more moisture will bend, or smush. How long should I expect my foods to store? If all conditions are perfect many dry goods will store 10 years or more. Storing in consistently cool, dry, oxygen and light-free conditions will provide the best results. We know that perfect conditions are not always available, and doing the best you can will still often result in food storage lasting 3 years or longer! Who are you, and do you store food?
