Description: This is a consecutive run of 5 original printings of THE FARMER'S ALMANACK , CALCULATED ON A NEW AND IMPROVED PLAN, FOR THE YEAR OF OUR LORD, 1825-1829, by Robert B. Thomas, published in Boston in 1824-1828 in a 12mo. measuring approximately 4.5" x 7.5" and containing 24 unnumbered leaves including a woodcut-illustrated title leaf, and a woodcut illustration heading for each month of the year, the leaves being bound by side-stitch. These 5 almanacs include Nos. XXXIII-XXXVII or, Thomas' 33rd-37th annually published almanac, first published in 1792. Contents include Money & Interest Tables and Court-related subjects, followed by a 5-page "Agriculture" section, followed by Poetry & Anecdotes and lastly 3 pages of distances of roads and towns leading from Boston, and the names of the Innkeepers along the way. Ref: Drake 3890, 3902, 3916, 3929 & 3942. The following specifics apply to each of the following 8 almanacs: 1825 - Printed by J. H. A. Frost for Richardson & Lord, Wrappers with edge tears are worn and heavily soiled, as are the blank margins of many of the leaves and spine with amateur resewing, ink notations to the Feb., Mar., Apr., & Nov. calendar pages, Agricultural section includes Bearing Calves, Asparagus, Milking of Cows, etc. 1826 - Printed by J. H. A. Frost for Richard & Lord, margins trimmed, wrappers with spotting and soiling, ink stains to 2 leaves, spine with amateur resewing, Agricultural section includes Fatting Swine, Preventing Dogs Killing Sheep, etc. 1827 - Printed by J. H. A. Frost for Richardson & Lord, front wrapper with large stain, wide untrimmed margins, Agricultural section includes Large and Small Farms Compared, a Good or Bad Farmer, Leaden vessels poisonous, Destroy the Small Yellow bug, etc. 1828 - Published by Ricardson & Lord, J. H. A. Printer, a whiter, brighter copy, but margins trimmed and with the lower outside edges of 12 leaves chewed and torn between January and December and with resulting loss of text to 4 leaves. Agricultural section includes Use of Lime, Canker Worm, Bottling Cider, Cure for Felons, etc. In this edition milage tables are followed by a blank Memoranda page which is followed by 3 pages of ads for School Books published by R&L, giving the almanac a total of 26 leaves, no copies of which are recorded in Drake. RARE! 1829 - Published by Richardson & Lord, but no credit given to a printer, Margins trimmed but the cleanest of the 5 almanacs, and like the 1828 almanac above, has 26 leaves, including the blank memoranda and 3 pages of publisher's ads, which once again was not located by Drake.
