Here is a fossil fish from the world-famous fossil beds of Fossil Lake, Green River Formation, Wyoming. From the Eocene, 52 million years ago. This is a Knightia eocaena, a complete specimen, measuring about 4.3" in length. It features very nice ray fins, caudal fin (tail), good vertebrae and natural golden-brown pigment, which is found in this layer of the lake. The plate is from some of the hardest layer of the 18" level, which is called the "capping layer" and features the handsome dark slate colored stone making this an attractive display piece.
