4 Antique Mission Dining Chairs. Quarter Sawn Oak. New Leather Seats w Studs

Description: Antique Set of Four Matching Mission Dining Chairs. Made from valuable Quarter Sawn Oak (see below). Appraiser dated them 1890-1910. Note: one chair has damage & had repairs. The other 3 are in excellent condition. Recently had the seats replaced by the top antique conservator in Washington DC, Nick Greer. (Mr Greer has restored antiques for the White House). Mr Greer found beautiful leather pieces for the seats & installed them with brass studs. The re-seating cost was $300. See attached receipt. ABOUT QUARTER SAWN OAK - Quarter sawn oak is more expensive than other types of lumber because it's more labor intensive to produce. The process involves cutting the oak log into quarters at specific an-gles, which creates unique prints and leaves some of the oak unus-able. Not every sawmill offers this technique, which can lead to a limited supply and higher price. Quarter sawn oak has been a popular choice for wood furniture since the early 20th century. It's especially popular for mission style furniture.
