Description: Up for buy it now are NEW third party VDP1434 compatible injection molded nylon K-mechanism drive motor couplers. TWO ARE INCLUDED PER LOT as shown in the first auction picture. Only one is needed per VCR, but it never hurts to have a backup and I am selling these for approximately the same price as only one from other sellers. The originals notoriously crack and cause all K-mechanism VCRs such as the AG1980/AG5710 to fail to load or eject tapes reliably, so I would consider changing these to be an essential part of keeping any AG1980 or AG5710 running reliably even if yours hasn't broken yet. My recommended install technique to the motor shaft is to use a needle nose pliers to press down from the side indents so as not to put any pressure at all on the tip of the coupler - See second photos with the direction you should direct the force to get the coupler onto the motor. No actual squeezing of the pliers is needed as you are only using it to apply force to both sides of the coupler in the direction towards the motor. The most common issue that can contribute to drive motor coupler failure and other damage when loading a tape a tape for the first time in a long time is dried up lubricant on the pinch roller arm assembly. I would HIGHLY encourage a quick check that the pinch roller arm can be wiggled easily around the axle/vertical rod. It should not feel frozen or hard to move. See the short video in the listing photos showing an appropriately lubricated pinch roller arm in the fully ejected position (no tape inserted). If the pinch roller arm is frozen or hard to move, the top white retaining tower can be unclipped from the top of the shaft by gently springing back the plastic in the center that retains it and then the white tower can be lifted straight up. After the white retaining tower is removed, the entire pinch roller arm assembly (looks like a beige plastic cylinder) can be pulled straight up (you may have to work it back and forth and rotate slowly to work it free if it's very stuck) which will allow you to clean the vertical rod/axis and the inside of the arm bearing with a Qtip and isopropyl alcohol followed by a very small amount of lubricating oil or grease to both. This should not be considered a tutorial on refurbishing the full mechanism, but it is the second most likely failure point in the mechanism that is easy to fix, just behind the motor coupler itself having cracked.
