Description: Ferocactus wislizeni, the fishhook barrel cactus, also called Arizona barrel cactus, candy barrel cactus, and Southwestern barrel cactus, is a species of flowering plant in the cactus family Cactaceae, native to northern Mexico and the southern United States. It is a ball-shaped cactus eventually growing to a cylindrical shape, with spiny ribs and red or yellow flowers in summer. Light requirements: full sun / partial sun soil & water preferences: grows well in well-drained soils. Growing Instructions: Place seeds on top of a moist cactus mix soil. Lightly cover them with the same soil and using a spray bottle moisten the top of the soil. Do not over water. Soil should be most but not soggy. Cover the tray or pot with a humidity dome or plastic wrap and leave in a bright area without direct sunlight. Within a couple of weeks you should see small green pinhead starting to spout. Leave under the humidity dome for a couple of months then slowly start to harden the seedlings. I usually water them once a month using a spray bottle to avoid over watering them.
