Inspired by Fleetwood FDCs of the 1970s, creating my own cachets fed into my collecting hobby as well as an interest in graphic design, allowing me to explore type, color, layout, concept and technique on the unusual canvas of an envelope. These covers became my first graphic design portfolio, helping to get my first freelance assignment for an ad agency. This work later won a scholarship from the Art Directors Club of New Jersey, were presented as a gallery exhibition while a student at Kean University, and has been featured in several graphic design textbooks. Ultimately, they helped launch a 25+ year career as a graphic designer and art director in Washington, DC.
