Description: Ten Original SEC Mascots by: Harry Lee 'Chig' Biggers, Jr. The SEC was established in 1932. Ten of the thirteen founding members have remained in the conference since its inception: Alabama, Auburn , Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State , Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. The other charter members were: the University of the South ("Sewanee") left the SEC in 1940; Georgia Tech left in 1964; and Tulane left in 1966. In 1990, the SEC expanded from ten to twelve member universities with the addition of Arkansas and South Carolina. In 2012, the SEC expanded from twelve to fourteen member universities with the addition of Texas A&M and Missouri. This is a painting of the ten original SEC mascots, circa 1969, by Harry Lee 'Chig' Biggers, Jr., [1941-1990] previously called “Little Chigger” after his father, who was called “Chigger.” Limited number of very colorful prints, size 20x16, was originally painted for the American Bankers Association Magazine. Mascots included the following: Kentucky Wildcat, Mississippi State Bulldog, Tennessee Volunteer, Ole Miss Rebel, Florida Gator, Auburn War Eagle, Alabama Elephant with Coach Bryant hat, LSU Tiger, Georgia Bulldog, and Vanderbilt Commodore. 'Chig' was agraduate of Corinth High School and received his degree in physical education from Mississippi State University in 1964. He was an employee of Biggers Hardware and artist/cartoonist for The Daily Corinthian. He was a member of Kiwanis Club of Corinth, the YMCA, Corinth Theatre-Arts, and Hillandale Country Club. Biggers died July 21, 1990 in Corinth, Mississippi.
