One of these women was Maya Angelou, famed poet. The design paid homage to her poetry, depicting a bird flying towards a rising Sun. These quarters were minted at Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. Some quarters minted at the Philadelphia mint have a fantastic die break which only enhances the imagery. This die break occurred at the mouth of the bird, which looks to the naked eye like a twig that the bird will use to make her nest for her young. a fantastic find, these special coins are hard to find.
