It is believed to be a hybrid of H. nakaiana. This is a small-medium hosta that grows in a dense mound to 15" tall and to 36" wide. Heart-shaped, blue-green leaves (to 5" long and 4" wide) have slightly undulate edges and a mucronate tip. Funnel-shaped, lavender flowers (each to 2 3/4" long) bloom in late spring to early summer in racemes atop upright, narrow, greenish-white scapes rising to 32" tall. Prior to bloom, the spherical buds on the flower scapes reportedly resemble pearls, hence the cultivar name .
